X

Connect your X account to publish posts and threads.

OmniSocials publishes posts and threads to X (formerly Twitter) through X's official API. X charges for API posts that contain a link, so those posts use credits. This article explains what you can publish, how to connect your account and how credits work.

What you can publish

FormatDetails
PostText, up to 4 images, or one video
ThreadSeveral posts that reply to each other, each with its own text and media

Direct messages on X can also come into your Social Inbox. This is optional and uses credits: 1 credit for each message you receive and 2 credits for each reply you send.

Requirements

  • An X account. With X Premium or Premium+, you can post up to 25,000 characters instead of 280.
  • The Manage Social Channels permission in your OmniSocials workspace.

Each workspace connects one X account.

Connect X

  1. Click the workspace name at the top of the sidebar, then click the + button (Add channel).
  2. Find the X card and click Connect.
  3. Sign in to X and authorize OmniSocials.

The X sign-in can get stuck in a loop. If that happens:

  1. Open x.com in another tab and sign in there first.
  2. Use your X password, not "Sign in with Google".
  3. Come back to OmniSocials and click Connect again.

To connect a different X account than the one signed in on x.com, sign out there first or use a private browser window.

When your account has X Premium, the X card shows a Premium badge.

X options in the editor

Click the X icon in the channel bar to see and edit the X version of your post. Type @ in the X editor to mention an account.

  • Threads: click Add post below in the toolbar to add a post to the thread. When your text is longer than 280 characters, click Split into thread to split it into several posts.
  • Alt text: click ALT on an image to describe it. X shows alt text on images, not on videos.

The X tab of the options panel at the bottom of the editor has these settings:

SettingWhat it does
Who can replyEveryone, People you follow or Only people you mention
Paid partnershipShows that the post promotes a brand or business
Made with AIMarks the post as containing synthetic content

X charges extra for API posts that contain a link, and OmniSocials passes that fee on as credits, at cost.

  • A post with a link that starts with http:// or https:// uses 20 credits.
  • In a thread, every post in the thread that contains such a link uses 20 credits.
  • Posts without a link are free. A link written without http:// or https://, such as brand.com, is also free.
  • Credits are only deducted once the post publishes.

The editor tells you how many credits a post will use before you schedule it. If your organization doesn't have enough credits, the X post fails. Buy more under Settings > Billing > Credits.

Limits

Limit
Text280 characters per post, or 25,000 with X Premium. Every link counts as 23 characters, and emoji and some symbols count as 2.
Media in a postUp to 4 images, or one video. Not both in the same post.
Image filesJPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 5 MB
VideoUp to 140 seconds and 512 MB. X Premium accounts can post longer and larger videos.

On X, a post needs text, media or both.

Troubleshooting

The sign-in loops or ends on your X timeline. Sign in on x.com in another tab with your X password, then click Connect again.

The card says Connection expired. Click Reconnect and sign in to X again.

You upgraded to X Premium, but the limit is still 280 characters. OmniSocials reads your X plan when you connect. Reconnect X with the refresh icon on its card.

The editor says there aren't enough credits for this X link post. Buy credits under Settings > Billing > Credits, or remove the link.
